Babaji's cave--Directions

Updated: Sep 15, 2022

Babaji’s Cave

Mahavatar (revered embodiment) Babaji's Cave; the immortal Babaji introduced Lahiri Mahasaya to Kriya Yoga, 1861; see chapter 33, Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda.

A most sacred pilgrimage of Kriya Yogis around the world; its location is near Kukuchina, India ~25km/15 miles North of Dwarahat; New Delhi North to Dwarahat is ~394km/245 miles.

The trek/walk on the path to the cave takes about 30-60+ minutes; fitness level dependent. The path is maintained, mostly cleared, minimal rocks and some rock steps; it’s worth the trip.

Devotees can meditate within the cave to feel the vibe; best to plan in advance and or make reservations; it can be crowded.

Please leave a donation.

“The trekking/walking 'how to'”; I used Strava to track the route to assist others; find it at Strava, David Skudneski, if you desire; see route, below.

There are some awesome scenic views along the road and path; Himalayas, too!

Approximate distance between Ranikhet and Babaji's cave is 55 kms/33 miles; about an hour’s drive if clear; can be three hours if festivities! Enjoy!

Some helpful notes:

Note: the friendly taxi driver’s car lacked proper suspension, the road is very “twisty” by some foreign country standards; some may want to use motion sickness pills, hot in late October for some without air conditioning…enjoy! Pack food if your distance is great, and use restroom, too!

It’s worth it!

Find suitable methods online to transport to Dwarahat, Raniket, Delhi, etc.

ENJOY!!
